How To Get The Hayden Panettiere Up-do…

Step by Step – The ‘Hayden’ Updo…

Here are my step by step tips on how to achieve the ultimate 40’s ‘Lock’ look! A great style for date night, classy work up-do or a wedding!

v

Step #ONE

Begin with clean, dry, tangle-free hair. If you have wavy or curly hair, run some straightening irons through it for a smoother sleeker look. Work a little mousse through your hair and tame any flyaway hair with a drop of anti-frizz serum before starting your chignon/bun.

v

Step #TWO

Take out a triangular section at the front to create the long sweeping fringe. Brush your hair back into a low side ponytail. It is best to have the fringe, on the same side as the ponytail like Hayden’s done.

v

Step #THREE

Hold the base of the ponytail with one hand, and then split the tail into 2 pieces.  If your hair is quite thin then gently backcomb underneath the tails to add some volume. Starting with one half of the tail, roll it up towards the nape of the neck and secure with pins.  Repeat the action with the remaining tail of hair, until you have two identical rounded buns of hair.

v

Step #FOUR

To create the sweeping side fringe, dampen first with some mousse and then blow dry to the side. For the super shiny look like Hayden’s, be sure to add a few drops of serum over your hair and secure with a generous amount of a firm hold hairspray.

v

Step #FIVE

Finish off with glossy red lips and heavy black eyeliner for the ultimate 40’s look!

Hair Fit For A Princess ‘The Meghan’

Hair Fit For A Princess ‘The Meghan’

Following the announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement, we have seen an influx of ladies wanting the ‘Meghan’ look. Having always been a hit in the style stakes, Meghan’s glossy locks have always been slightly overlooked, but not anymore with an increase in women wanting to imitate her soon to be Royal mane.

Lisa has been giving the Royal treatment in our Kidderminster salon since the engagement was announced! The ladies love it!

“Meghan’s look is perfect for a princess in waiting. Her hair is one of her key features, the colour is super simple and shiny and really suits her skin tone and her long, wavy layers add depth and give her more body. I have had clients asking to go darker and richer in colour like Meghan’s and also lots of people have been asking what treatments they can use to try and get their hair in the same brilliantly shiny condition.

Why Meghan’s look also works is the fact that it is low maintenance and ideal for women with hectic schedules, regular trims and colour gloss top-ups are key though.” – Lisa xx

Colouring & Cutting Curly Hair

Colouring & Cutting Curly Hair

It is a completely different thing to cutting normal, straight European hair. I do not think there are a lot of people that can really grasp what to do with curls, and certainly i think anybody with curly hair knows that. A lot of the time, people with curly hair dread coming into a salon, especially due to the way people may simply just dry it for them or not dry it may be the case.

Colouring curly hair is very different in the sense that you have really got to be quite gutsy with the colour, otherwise it will just vanish into the hair. You can spend ages putting all of the colour in, wash it off at the basin, take the client to section and its gone. There is then disappointment for you and also to the client.

So, there is just ways of mixing up the different weaves you put in. It is all about the placement, it is everything when it comes to colouring curl.

I tend to cut curl in a very relaxed way and almost technically ’incorrectly’, but from a client’s perspective they love it! This is because the hair looks lived in, relaxed and it does not look like it has been done by a hair dresser, but equally the haircut still has balance.

Curl is a huge subject in it’s entirety and those with curly hair do need that extra bit of help maintaining and looking after it.

Age Appropriate Hair

Age Appropriate Hair

“You should not have long hair when you are older” – to me this is utter and complete rubbish! I hear this all the time and I find it annoying.

I partly agree that “excessively” long hair as you get older may be tricky to wear and to deal with especially if its lost its Va Va Voom but it might be more about a statement look, hair and women have changed – its now all about confidence! So I feel, regardless of length, as long as your hair is kept soft, it does not matter really what length it is. It’s no different to wearing your hair too short, if it’s cropped & masculine then it is not going to flatter us with ease in our later years. Keeping it simple and soft works for most.

Age appropriate hair was something that we discussed a lot on 10 Years Younger, and whilst there are parameters, equally there is now much more freedom. So for me, it is all about the woman, her personality, her lifestyle, her budget.

Advice for Shoots & Creating Images

Advice for Shoots & Creating Images

The best advice that i was given when i was entering awards, was to create images for your own brand – Do photographs that suit you.

There is no point digging out all of last years winners and copying what they did so you therefor win, it does not work like that. You have got to master your own craft, you have got to do hair that suits your future vision .

With me, when i first created my brand, it was about creating hair that i love to look at. Touchable, feel-able, wearable, sexy hair that women would be proud to walk out of the door with, hair that women really wanted. At that point hair was not like that, it was harder edged, very trendy and cool, lots of product. I barely used product in any of winning collections –  the pictures just represented my brand, beautifully coloured hair with a commercial edge but finished in a totally undone but wearble way, this was what I wanted the future of my brand to be – then, if we did not win we had fantastic pictures to PR, put on the wall, show clients, share with staff, teach from. So all of the photographs regardless if we won were tick tick tick. They were from the heart and it was hair that i really believed made the girls look better.

I have always kept it really simple. “Less is More” has always been my mantra. I think it is the hardest hair to create – Avant Garde “stuff” is far easier in my opinion! So for me, for creating personal choice or business images, firstly find your USP, stick to it, believe in it, do not be deterred or side tracked, or forced into doing something you do not believe in. Create what you feel is right and represents you – only then will it remain TIMELESS.

Hair Memberships

Why Choose A Membership @ LISA?

Memberships are a really good way of having your own hair plan! They make a great gift but don’t just have to be started at Christmas – they can be taken up all year round. They give the hairdresser the freedom to create and most importantly maintain amazing hair on each and every visit. They are great value for money.

One month, you may only need a little bit of blonde, next time you may need a lot, you then may need a few low lights or just your roots – a client does not like to get messed around on price. They like consistency especially on price but sometimes this is impossible unless on a package.

So memberships are a good way to level out that payment process across the entire year. You can be saving anything between £500 to £1880 a year so It is an excellent way of saving money and all in all gives you a completely stress-less, worry free, hair year! Who doesn’t want that!

It is our job to maintain your look! They really are as simple and as beneficial as they sound!
