lisa and dane 2011 photo webTim Scott-Wright and I were guests at the L'Oreal Colour Trophy Awards this year. The winners were announced at a glitzy ceremony at Grosvenor House.

Over 1000 of the hair industry's most prominent and successful figures filled the room to witness the 45-metre perspex runway come to life with breathtaking lighting, enthralling stage effects, thumping music and mesmerising hairdressing talent, all presented by Radio 1's Sara Cox.

Russell Eaton salon from Leeds took the judging panel by storm and seized one of the industry's longest running and renowned hair award, the L’Oréal Colour Trophy.

Following dinner, the audience were captivated by the elegance of Guy Kremer and his team. Beautiful models drifted along the epic runway draped in couture gowns by Julien McDonald, Lara Bohnic and Stéphane Rolland to name just a few, accompanied by the sensational voice of renowned opera singer Annie Lovell.

After the confetti fell the guests and award winners danced into night to the sounds of celebrity DJ Dane Bowers who kept the party going until the early hours.

I do have to say one of the highlights of my night was meeting my long-term crush Mr Danes Bowers - Mwah! x

Be Fantastic!

Monday 23rd May was the Fantastic Hairdresser seminar held by Alan Austin-Smith, the day was held at the Mermaid Theatre in London. At the event was an array of not only hairdressers, but people from other walks of life including business professionals and teachers as well.

Alan always delivers on any of his private courses and indeed his seminars are no exception. Myself and Jason from London Salon attended the day. Customer service is imperative in all people related business, non more so with the financial climate, this echoed throughout the day, a truly motivational day was had by all, and Jason and I certainly got some great ideas to take back into the salon.

Tim attends NHF Awards

On the evening of Monday 9th May I was fortunate enough to be invited to the NHF academy awards presentation, this was held at the Holiday Inn Coventry. The evening was hosted by Lee Stafford, and there was an amazing presentation by Patrick Cameron, although I have been in the industry a number of years now, I never tire of seeing the ‘creative long hair godfather’ on stage doing what he does best!

A true showman that kept the audience enthused with talent and humour, I felt like I had been to a cabaret club and seen my craft at the end of the presentation, bravo Patrick!

I knew Lisa would have loved to have been there, but as her leg was still in the grip of her plaster cast then it was up to me to collect the award.

So as they called Lisa on stage and I walked up, Lee jested " I love what you've done with your hair Lisa".

A truly great evening on this the NHF's first awards.

katie working shot web

I have been busy lately working very closely with Schwarzkopf events, the first was a cool urban street dance competition that they were sponsoring which took place in all major cities, I took a small team away with me to help style members of the publics hair and promote the new range, this also consisted of us all demonstrating and talking on stage in front of huge audiences at Sheffield’s Meadow Hall and Birmingham’s Bullring.

kate presenting on stage 2 webThe event was a fun one to be involved in as there was a MASSIVE range of talented dancers on stage with the likes of BBC’s 'So You Think You Can Dance?' Judge Sisco Gomez and the UK’s number one street dance group Plague were judging.

I was then off to London to the cool exclusive club called Bungalow 8 . This was a intimate launch party for the new POWDER’ful products and was hosted by the gorgeous Rick Edwards who you may recognize from presenting T4 and other programs on channel 4. I was a lucky girl being up on stage with Rick.  After demonstrating the range and talking to the press it was time to relax with a few cheeky cocktails in the VIP lounge not for long though as it  was back on the train and home.

Awards Judge

Being asked to judge any hair awards is a huge honour, when asked to judge the Hooker and Young salon group awards - I was thrilled!

Lisa and myself have always had a close relationship with our 'geordie lads' so I was really looking forward to seeing the boys and the latest hair shots from across the group. When I arrived at the Marriot Gosforth on Sunday 20th Feb, the preparation was already underway - with 4 awards categories; Assistant, Graduate Stylist, Stylist and Artistic Team.

All entries were outstanding and it was clear how much effort had gone into the entries, making it very difficult to judge.

After an afternoon of careful scrutiny and deliberation with my fellow judges who included - Jayne Lewis-Orr and Alison Jameson. We had a brief break, before returning downstairs to hear the winners announced. The evening was both fun and emotional for the whole group at Hooker and Young, and I had a blast. It was great to see another groups work and I was made to feel immensely welcome - Thank You!
